Shou sugi ban style kitchen mixing/spoons.  3 spoonsEach spoon is approximately 12" long and "quenched" in coconut oil after preserving the wood using the japanese shou sugi ban style of wood preservation, which is a light burning of the wood to assist in moisture and bacteria resistance.

Shou sugi ban is the term commonly used in the West for yakisugi, an ancient Japanese technique for preserving wood with fire.  Shou sugi ban traditionally involves scorching wooden boards with a torch or controlled fire, cooling the wood, softening the char with a wire brush, removing dust, and, topping the wood with natural oil (coconut oil for these spoons).
